UCL MD1 A fresh start

Image
The Uefa Champions League. Quite possibly the most prestigious club level competition with the highest level of football being played. It is every teams dream to win this trophy as it is the hardest one to win. The best sides across Europe fighting tooth and nail for their name on the trophy is a sight one can never get tired of. Ever since Messi came to Barcelona he has led them to 4 UCLs but the last few seasons have been grim. Barcelona have gained a reputation for being bottle jobs, slipping and converting a guaranteed victory into a loss and most recently the 8-2 humiliation which forced the club to take major actions. It is time we forget the past and focus solely on this season and try our best to proceed as far as we can. It might just do us a favor that we aren't expected to win this season so the pressure there has been is gone which may help the players focus and win. When the draw came out it was no doubt this was one of the most delightful groups there. Barcelona were ...

MD4 FIFA Virus strikes agian

Image
The FIFA virus. Over the years analysts have seen a trend as to how the first match after an international break goes and the outcome? The top clubs whose players go out to represent their nations to play friendlies and unnecessary matches perform so very underwhelmingly while the lower clubs get a 2 week break train hard and come fully prepared for the game. Barcelona is one such club which has faced over the last so many years shock defeats and upsets that can only be blamed on FIFA. Several players have come out to say that even in this pandemic time where they are already playing more games in a jam packed schedule FIFA expects them to travel thousands of miles for meaningless matches just to make some money on television rights. Some footballers even went as far as to say they were puppets being controlled by FIFA and to this point I completely agree. By now you might have probably figured out that Barcelona lost, lost 1-0 to Getafe a side who had finished just above the relegatio...

MD3 Sharing the spoils with Sevilla

Image
So we have finally dropped points. After a run of 6 games including friendlies Barcelona finally dropped 2 points drawing 1-1 with the Europa league champions Sevilla. There was some serious hype surrounding this game as both the teams were on the back of high flying starts to the campaign and it was anticipated to be an extremely open end to end game with the 3 points up for either side's taking. Sevilla when playing at the camp Nou have had a bad history but without fans due to the pandemic Barcelona's home isn't the fortress it once was and if there was a good time for Sevilla to take something from the game it was now. The game started out with Rakitc, a former barca player sold to Sevilla just a few weeks ago getting a honor ceremony for his contributions for Barcelona. It was an emotional for him, returning to the club he spent the last 5 years at winning an incredible 16 trophies during that given period. Having caught up with his former team mates it was now time fo...

MD2 Breaking the Celta Curse

Image
Celta Vigo and Barcelona. This pairing has never gone well together for Barcelona. It had been 5 seasons without a victory at the Estadio De Balaidos and Celta had always managed to pull of an upset against Barcelona so much so that footballing pundits started claiming it as the Celta curse for Barcelona. Unlike other seasons going into the match I wasn't expecting a win even on the back of a 4-0 victory cause well history wasn't on our side, it was still a young developing squad, it was a match in the middle of terrible weather with non stop rain and most importantly Messi had come out lashing at the Barca board for mismanagement, indicating his head might not be in the game. The match started out as expected Celta pressing high trying to stop us from playing our build up style with which we work best and they even managed to steal the ball and smash it but their efforts were valiant at best. Then stepping up again the teen sensation Ansu Fati received a perfect through ball p...

MD 1- Our La Liga Journey Begins

Image
Wow. Just wow. What a performance! I'm lacking words to describe it. 2 goals from the hottest talent prospect a 17 year old kid by the name of Ansu Fati, you people better remember that name cause this boy is breaking records left, right and center, paired up with a penalty and assist from Messi made the most delightful viewing ever.  Barcelona got of to a quick start with Fati dribbling past 3 defenders taking the shot from outside the box and placing it ever so finely. Just minutes later Fati popped up again! A brilliant cross into the box from Alba and Fati comes out from nowhere to surprise the defense and gives the ball the slightest of touches redirecting in to the goal. Barcelona keep applying he pressure they are hungry for goals and yeah you guessed it right the super kid Fati is on it again! Quick feet in the box takes on a couple of defenders but one of them sticks out a foot and down goes Fati earning a penalty.  Now Messi hasn't really been involved in anything re...

Preseason

With the pandemic going strong it was always going to be an entirely unforeseen and never before season of football. Having contested and been thrashed 8-2 by the eventual champions Bayern in August, it was time for the players to put all that behind them and focus ahead to the start of the new season. 3 Friendlies in the span of 8 days has never ever been seen but with the other teams already having begun their journey in la liga the players needed to gain fineness and sharpness. Well obviously we ended up wining all 3 of the matches cause they were against much smaller teams but what has rather caught my eye is the young talent. Over the past few seasons coaches have been criticized of not playing the young talents but with a couple of senior players departed this might be the break through season for a couple of them. Back from his loan spell at Bayern, Coutinho looks like a whole other player now someone who we can depend on. Messi despite the constant rumor's linking him with ...

About the blog

As an avid football viewer since 2013 I have always been a supporter of FC Barcelona and have been mesmerized by their style of play. This blog is just me a fan writing about the latest 2020/21 season posting my opinions on the players the performances and voicing my concerns. So join me in my journey as the new young era of Barcelona begins on the back of a very terrible trophy less season,  a transfer window where we sold so many of our best and most experienced players and hired a coach whose reputation with club football has always been a bit notorious. Forca Barca!
